Lives and works in Michigan
and Illinois Artist Website

Having summered in northern Michigan since birth, I have been entranced for many years by the mysterious beauty and light of the Leelanau peninsula. I have found endless inspiration for watercolor landscape painting both in Michigan and in subsequent travels. There is an energy and joy that come from painting in the landscape - a celebration of life itself.

Inspired by artists Winslow Homer, Fairfield Porter, Edward Hopper, David Hockney, Nell Blain and Richard Diebenkorn, I have recently been exploring large painterly acrylics and oils of figures in the landscape and still life in addition to my more traditional watercolors. It has been lifelong passion to try and capture that exact moment when light, color and composition coalesce into a perfect “AHA”!

Sallie Stanley’s work is in private collections not only in the Chicago area but in the homes and businesses of many Michigan summer friends and families throughout the United States. After her B.A. (English) from Smith in ’74, Sallie received her degree in Graphic Arts from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. She spent five years in the advertising world from 1978-1983 as an Art Director, Associative Creative Director and V.P. at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago. She then began her career as a free-lance graphic artist and eventually full-time painter while raising two daughters in Winnetka, Il. with her very supportive husband, J.
